The Day of European Authors is an initiative of the European Commission to reconnect younger generations with book reading and to help them discover the diversity of European literature. The first edition will take place on 27 March and Babnik will take part in a reading session at the European School in Ljubljana.
Dry Season is a remarkable novel that breaks the mould of what we usually expect from a writer from a small Central European nation. With a global perspective, Gabriela Babnik takes on themes of racism, the role of women in modern society, and the loneliness of the human condition.
Published in 2012, the novel was nominated for the Kresnik Award for best Slovenian novel and the International Dublin Literary Award and received the 2013 European Union Prize for Literature. It has so far been sold to 15 territories with a deal for the Ukrainian translation in the works.
